Snap and Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi Unveil Augmented Reality

In collaboration with the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, Snap is introducing a series of augmented reality experiences to transform the museum into an immersive journey. Visitors will learn about the natural history of Earth by bringing prehistoric eras, ancient creatures, and extinct species to life through Snap's AR technology, leveraging scientific discoveries from over 13 billion years of Earth's history.

Using AR on their mobile phones and next-generation Snap glasses, visitors can explore these sciences in a new and innovative way, feeling interaction with what they see, unlike visits limited to just watching. The experiences are designed to enhance learning, spark curiosity, and allow visitors to interact with natural history as if they were truly living it.

The museum's famous lobby has been redesigned to resemble a lush Jurassic forest. Visitors can walk among three ancient types of dinosaurs—the Camarasaurus, Brachiosaurus, and Tylosaurus—each reconstructed in its natural form with a rich educational narrative. Lenses add an aesthetic touch to the surrounding space with prehistoric foliage, while dynamic lighting creates an immersive environment that multiple visitors can explore simultaneously.

Through a new pair of glasses, visitors will have the exclusive opportunity to experience an AR demonstration. During presentations and guided tours, visitors can see a life-sized Brachiosaurus appear directly before them, without needing screens or portable devices. This experience blends physical and digital environments as if they were real, allowing them to learn about prehistoric eras.

Among the most impactful and interactive experiences, visitors can witness a life-sized blue whale with photorealistic accuracy. The lens features an X-ray function that provides a look into the whale's internal structure, including its heart and lungs, and how it adapted to diving into the ocean depths.

Peter C. Kiærsgaard, Director of the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, stated: "By integrating science with augmented reality, we enable visitors to understand the history of our planet in deeper and more accessible ways."
